FAQ's
Here are some commonly asked questions.
What file types do signwriters need?
Depending on the type of signwriting. Signwriters require vector files (EPS or PDF) for vinyl cutting. PDF is the standard print file required. We require all print files to have fonts converted to outlines/paths. Images for print at 300dpi (small print) or 150dpi minimum (large format) and files for printing needs to have bleed. If you can provide a Print Ready PDF, then we can check it for compatibility.
Are you more expensive?
Our design service is of high quality. Our pricing is more cost effective than using a design agency, and our hourly rates for design are similiar to using a printer or signwriter. Our partnership with Wholesale Print and various other printers and signwriters across New Zealand offers good rates due to established relationships and volumes of work, knowing who is the best supplier to go to, at the most cost effective price, or best turnaround, without compromising on quality.
Can I provide my own print files?
Yes. We take no responsibility for file setup if Print Ready PDF files have been provided to us. Canva is not a tool we would recommend for setting up print or signwriting files. But you can do so at your risk.
Can I use a different sign company?
Absolutely. I can design, proof and supply print ready files to your preferred signwriter. Please just ask them what file types they prefer and any bleed requirements (all signwriters are slightly different) so we can setup the files correctly for you first time.
Why wouldn't I go direct to the signwriter?
You can. Just like you can get a mortgage at a bank directly. Or you can use a mortgage broker. As a designer-broker, we aren't limited by what our one sign shop can offer, as we work with several. From the largest wholesale printer in New Zealand, right down to the local signwriter. We offer a design first approach to printing and signwriting. Then figure out the best supplier for you.
Do you print in house?
Not much. I have an A3 printer and scanner for small jobs. But for cost effectiveness most printing is done offsite through our various print and trade suppliers.
How long does it take?
From sign off of artwork, I can let you know how long your job will take. At minimum it is usually 1 week for print only. Please allow a couple of weeks for jobs that require install.
